To serve the Austin community, AISD has decided that we will offer tuition-supported Pre-Kindergarten classes for children across the district beginning this fall. This will open up the program to students who do not qualify for AISD Pre-Kindergarten by income or as English Language Learners. As always, Pre-K students who are eligible for free instruction will continue to receive that service.
The program will provide a six-hour day of instruction by certified teachers specifically trained to work with young children. The tuition-supported Pre-K program will be offered at 22 elementary schools across the district. Cost for enrollment in the program is $4,656 per school year. But the deadline for enrollment is fast approaching.
Parents must apply for their children by June 15 at AISD headquarters, 1111 West Sixth Street. Please bring a photo ID, the child's official birth certificate, a current immunization record signed by a doctor, and a utility bill, lease, or other proof of residence in AISD.
We hope this provides a new opportunity in Austin for Pre-K instruction, and a help for parents who already have older siblings in the schools offering this instruction.
