Entrepreneurs Foundation Gives Winn a Makeover

What a great day at Winn Elementary School! More than 450 volunteers from the Austin community gave Winn a makeover. They were organized by the Entrepreneurs Foundation and represented 26 business partners from across the city. While the teachers and students were involved in intellectual pursuits in the classroom and in sports for the school's Field Day, these volunteers were deeply engaged in improving the physical plant at Winn.

I did get the chance to explain to students what an Entrepreneur does. A new word and an important new concept!

Every year the Entrepreneurs Foundation organizes a day of service for local businesses to support a school in AISD. Winn was the lucky partner this year. Volunteers were everywhere you looked. Convio, Silicon Valley Bank, uShip, and vcfo created an incredible mosaic on the front of the school with the school's name and school colors. Creditcards.com created a butterfly garden, while volunteers from Affigeny, pwc and uShip worked on the school's vegetable garden. Workers from Indeed, Innography, ReachForce and uShip grabbed paint brushes and rollers to spruce up the school's exterior, while Food on the Table, LibreDigital, Manticore Technology, Nvidia, and Thinkwell created incredible murals featuring athletics in the gym and a hallway. Austin Ventures, Dachis Group, Troux Technologies, Enspire Learning, Adlucent, and Vinson and Elkins all pitched in to improve the school's bus stop, the courtyard, and flower beds. Meanwhile the Austin Technology Council, Collider Media, Comerica, and uShip helped with the school's field day.

Volunteers at Winn Elementary School
Thank you to Winn principal Lucy Duncan and to Eugene Sepulveda and Shobie Partos of the Entrepreneurs Foundation for putting this together. Also thanks to the AISD Facilities Department for its help. And especially thank you to all the volunteers who made over Winn in one incredible day of work. The school is not only beautiful on the outside, but it also makes the students, teachers, staff and families of Winn feel great on the inside with enhanced pride in their campus.
