Thank you, Longhorn Band!

The UT Longhorn Band filing in (and filing and filing and filing...)
I was at the 35-yard line and they were still coming in 3 to 4 people deep per row!
Does The UT Longhorn Band have fans in AISD or what!?!?! The kids and Texas alums (and even a few Aggies) are so crazy about them.

It's such an honor to have them come and play a private concert and march for our kids. They take the concept of mentoring and modeling to another level by showing our students how they can continue their interest in music and dance in college. I'll be sure to send a note to President Powers and thank him on behalf of the district for letting them come and play at our Band Jamboree.

It's for real folks; the stories are true. The UT Longhorn Band wears Stetsons! (I really didn't know.) And, a tribute to Spain just for me? I lived and studied in Spain in college my junior year! It's so sweet that they play The Eyes of Texas and Texas Fight. And it's even sweeter that the Reagan band serenaded the Longhorn Band when the Horns were on their way out of the stadium.

Hook 'em Horns! And, I'm hooked on AISD bands too! Great night at the Band Jamboree!

Bowie - The Outdoor Performing Ensemble

The Bowie Bulldog Band

"Revolutionary" is just the beginning. Bowie is worth the wait, especially for the french horn solo! Is that 16 tubas???? Who knew you could find that many students interested in playing the tuba in one school. (Betsy Blair wants to know who polishes them all!) A sea of beautiful Red Dawgs!

Austin High School Marching Band

Austin High Maroon Band

I visited with the Austin High band this summer before school started and, well, what can I say? Practice does indeed make perfect: trumpet soloist, the woodwind pods, mini ensembles, strong brass! Fantastic!

I can't wait for them to play in England on New Year's! Hope they do that bugle boy move again - just too adorable!

Anderson High School Marching Band

Anderson High School Trojan Band
Ooooooooooooo.... What's that????? Watery sounds with other sounds...what's going to happen??? Pretty flags... Oooooooooo... Rain drops and umbrellas... Oooooooooo ...Waves. How gorgeous!

Okay, I can't describe this one. You just have to see it. And hear it: the woodwind trills and runs are perfection!

LBJ Marching Band

The one and only LBJ Band

(Use the voice of Don Haynes and say:)
The one!
The only!
The LBJ Marching Band!

They took the field in commanding form! There are a ton of trombone players! Lovely trumpet solo. The bass drum player is great to watch...very focused on the music with good rhythm.

McCallum High School Marching Band

The Mac Band

Orange color guard outfits are refreshing (loving the leotards). The best part was the end zone-to-end zone line-up march toward the sideline! The mallet work was powerful and precise. GO MAC!

Crockett High School Marching Band

Crockett Cougar Drumline
Percussion section and trumpet duet were outstanding! Here's the Drumline. Gotta love the drums!

AISD 38th Annual Marching Band Jamboree - something to really celebrate!

Reagan High Soul Raiders
Under the full moon and the clear sky (can you believe it? No rain!), I'm enjoying my first ever Band Jamboree for AISD marching bands — what a great idea!

Trustees Cheryl Bradley, Lori Moya, and Christine Brister are here too (they were just introduced over the PA system). Karen Sperry and Betsy Blair are my marching partners in crime sitting on the 35-yard line with me. We are surrounded by adoring parents and friends of our students and staff.

I was here from the beginning with the Ann Richards girls (cute, tasteful skirts for marching — another first for me.) Then Eastside Memorial, Travis, and Lanier. The photo is of Reagan Soul Raiders band. They did a really good job too, especially the dancers.

I'll post the photos and highlights of others as the night as the beat goes on......
